THE TRINE ART COLLECTIVE
A Group Exhibition
1 December 2022 – 11 January 2023
AVA Gallery, Cape Town, South Africa
The Trine Art Collective is a group of three visual artists, Staša Hlava, Elske Henderson, Christel Liebenberg, living and working in the Western Cape, South Africa. We came together through mutual interests and a desire to explore and participate in the broader art world. Our aim is to learn and grow from each other through exposure to different interests, materials, techniques and technologies.
As a collective, we grapple with an awareness of loss in our investigation into the ecologies that form part of the fabric of our everyday lives. In this exhibition, we respond individually to the disruptive forces which alters the ecologies of nature, the city and home.
In my body of work, I imagine future cities and grapple with the ways that urbanisation has and will continue to affect us. I question our handling of continued urbanisation and our impact on the ecology of our current and future colonised planets. Using cranes, skyscrapers and references to scaffolding, my work foregrounds the fragility of our repetitive patterns of construction and destruction. Concerned with issues such as overpopulation, massive urbanisation and exploding metropolises, I probe the loss and search for the human soul in our urbanised world. I respond to these issues through animation, etching and abstract paintings.
